A deciduous
tree the sweet chestnut produces spiky seed pods that hold the ‘fruit’ inside
not to be confused with the horse chestnut which looks similar however it is
fairly inedible but good for playing games of conkers…
We have been
eating chestnuts since around 2000BC apparently and the armies of Alexander the
Great were noted as favouring them.
The nut has
a very strong masculine energy and the tree is often associated with Zeus.
